There are no longer Summer Commencement ceremonies held for the University of Oregon

All students who will have completed their INTL and UO requirements in either Fall 2017, Winter, Spring and/or Summer 2018 are invited to participate in the Spring 2018 commencement ceremonies for the University in addition to their specific major departments. Students should apply for their degrees on Duckweb by assigning the term their requirements will be complete.

UO Spring Commencement for Academic Year 2017-18 will be on Monday, June 18th.

The UO general commencement ceremony will be held at 9:00am on that day in the Matthew Knight Arena. Please click on the link above for information about the main ceremony, other UO ceremony times and locations, Grad Fest activities and location, and important information for guests, including parking shuttles.

INTL Ceremony Details

*Students (graduate, undergraduate) planning to participate in the INTL ceremony must check in at the check-in table (located by the new stairs leading down to the amphitheater) between 11:30am and 12:00pm*

Location: EMU Amphitheater, East 13th Avenue & University Street. This is an outdoor venue, and guests are encouraged to bring sun and rain protection, depending on weather conditions of the day.

Time: Ceremony begins at noon. Guests may arrive and find seats beginning at 11 am. Graduating students are requested to assemble by the check-in table beginning at 11:30 am. Ceremony begins promptly at 12:30pm. The ceremony typically lasts around 90 minutes.

Reception: The Department of International Studies offers a reception immediately following the ceremony, with cake and refreshments for graduates and their guests. The reception location will be very close to the ceremony location, and is still being decided.

Other Questions:

How many guests can I invite/where can I get tickets? There is no limit to the number of guests you can invite to the INTL ceremony, and there are no tickets to be issued. Seating is first come, first serve. If you have a guest with accessibility needs or mobility issues, please contact the INTL office in 175 PLC, or call 541-346-5051.

Can students participate in both the UO main ceremony and that for INTL? Yes! Students can participate both ceremonies. The UO main ceremony is scheduled to end at 10:30, allowing students enough time to walk from the Matt Knight Arena to the EMU amphitheater and check in at the INTL table.

Is regalia required? No, students do not have to purchase regalia, nor do they have to wear the traditional cap and gown to participate in our ceremony. However, the vast majority of students choose to do so.

I was given permission to walk; why am I not listed as a graduating senior in the program? The INTL commencement program lists all INTL students who will have completed their requirements between Fall 2017 and Summer 2018. Students who have permission to participate in our Spring commencement ceremony, and whose requirements will be completed after Summer 2018, will be recognized individually as they walk across the stage to accept their diploma cover.

Does INTL offer a Summer Commencement Ceremony? The Department of International Studies does not hold a separate graduation ceremony during the summer. Any INTL major from the UO who will have completed their UO and INTL requirements between Fall 2017 and Summer 2018 can participate in the Spring 2018 ceremonies for the UO and INTL department.
