Lunch Talk, Friday, May 12th – Food Matters: Cooking and Sharing Meals as Creative Power
The next talk in our INTL Spring Lunch Talk Series is coming up Friday May 12th. It will be located in McKenzie 240A from 11am – 12pm.
In this illustrated presentation Professor Stephen Wooten (Department of International Studies & Director of the UO Food Studies Program) introduces the idea of “cooking culture” and explores “food sharing” as an ancient and contemporary creative process. He shows how these processes work at various scales from families to the global community. Examples from long ago and far away and from right now and right around the corner help to highlight the power and potential of food – and food studies – for meaningful connection.
As an added treat, the Food Studies program and International Studies Department are co-sponsoring the event to bring you food provided by La Granada Latin Kitchen (a local cafe located at Sprout’s Food Hub in Springfield, OR, dedicated to provide the community with authentic Latin dishes using the finest ingredients). We hope to see you there for food and fun!
